Day 44Goodnight, Lord

Quiet your soul like a child

Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

Psalm 131:2

There's a stillness we have to choose. The soul doesn't always quiet itself on its own — sometimes it must be deliberately calmed, just as the psalmist did. Notice the image: a child in her mother's arms, no longer crying for milk, simply resting, content in her presence. That's how God invites you to end the day. Not restless, demanding, insisting on answers, but serene, content just to be near Him. You don't need everything resolved in order to be still; you only need to nestle into God's presence like a child in someone's arms. Tonight, make that inward gesture: breathe deeply, quiet the restlessness, and rest not in what you have, but in Who holds you. Sleep like a child in the Father's arms — with nothing left to ask for, only trusting.

Prayer

Father, I quiet my soul before You, like a child in her mother's arms. I don't want to demand anything now, only to rest in Your presence. Still my heart and help me sleep. Amen.
