Day 29Goodnight, Lord

Release Your Children and Loved Ones

I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

Psalm 3:5

Whoever loves, worries. Maybe it's for a child, an aging parent, someone far away or unwell — and that worry insists on staying up with you through the night. But listen: the love you have for these people is great, and God's love for them is greater. You can't protect them by staying awake, and you don't need to. When you lie down, God keeps on sustaining — you and them. Letting go of the ones you love isn't loving them less; it's trusting more. Tonight, instead of carrying everyone on your chest all night long, place each name in God's hands, one by one, and rest. He cares for them better than your vigil ever could. Sleep: the Father who sustains you also sustains those you love.

Prayer

Lord, I entrust to You the people I love, name by name. Care for them tonight, for Your care reaches where mine cannot. I lie down and sleep, for You sustain us. Amen.
