Near the Brokenhearted

Some nights we lie down with our heart in pieces. There's no pretty way to say it: it hurts. If that's how it is for you tonight, know that God is not distant from your brokenness — He is near, nearer than ever. It isn't on the strong days that He draws closest, but precisely on the days you feel undone. You don't have to gather the pieces by yourself before you pray. You can come to Him just as you are, in your pain, and He draws near with no rush to fix you. Tonight, let God come close. Lean your sorrow against Him and rest in the care of the One who stays beside those who suffer. Your broken heart is in the hands of the One who knows how to heal.
