Day 85 — Closer to God — 365 Days
Don't Drown in What Hasn't Happened Yet
“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?”
Matthew 6:31
Jesus knew that anxiety has favorite addresses: food, drink, clothing — in the context of his time, the basic necessities of survival. Today they would be: the bill at the end of the month, health, a job, a child, a relationship.
And He doesn't say these things don't matter. He says you have a Father who knows you need them. The issue isn't the need — it's where you place your trust.
When you nestle your trust in God, worry about the basics changes character. It doesn't disappear from the radar, but it stops being terror. You still take care of things, you still plan, but without the suffocation of facing it all alone.
"Seek first the Kingdom of God" comes right after. The secret is in the order: put God first, and the other things will be handled by the One who has the power to handle them.
Prayer
Father, You know what I need before I even ask. Help me to seek You first, and to trust that everything else is in Your capable hands. Amen.
