Day 83 — Closer to God — 365 Days
Gratitude as an Antidote
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Gratitude and anxiety can't coexist for very long. When you're genuinely grateful, your mind has to be in the present — noticing what you already have, what has already been given, what is here right now.
"In every thing" doesn't mean "for every thing" — you don't have to be grateful for the pain itself. But in the midst of pain, you can find reasons to give thanks. The health you have. The roof over your head. The friend who listened. The verse that showed up at just the right time. The warm cup of coffee.
This isn't denying the hardship. It's training your eyes not to miss what fear wants you to overlook.
Today, before listing what's missing, list what's present. It can be small. It can be just three things. But do it. The heart shifts position when the mouth starts giving thanks. It's a spiritual law God placed inside you.
Prayer
Father, teach me to have eyes of gratitude. When anxiety tries to show me only what's missing, remind me to look at what I have. Thank You for everything I so often pass by without noticing. Amen.
