Day 82 — Closer to God — 365 Days
The Weight You Don't Have to Carry
“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:30
Jesus said this right after inviting the weary to come rest. And it might sound confusing: does He have a yoke? A burden? Yes. But it's completely different from what the world — and sometimes even religion — puts on us.
His yoke is not one of impossible perfection. It's not about performing well enough to be accepted. It's not about carrying the weight of your past decisions all alone. His yoke is walking together with Him — and when you're in the yoke with Jesus, He carries most of the weight.
Much of anxiety comes from burdens that were never meant for you to carry: the expectation of being perfect, other people's judgment, guilt over mistakes that have already been forgiven, the pressure to handle everything. That is not the yoke of Jesus.
Today, ask yourself: this weight I'm carrying — did it come from Him, or did I pick it up myself?
Prayer
Jesus, help me identify what You never asked me to carry. I want to walk with Your yoke, not with what I invented myself. Teach me to be light. Amen.
