Day 74 — Closer to God — 365 Days
When the Storm Won't Pass
“But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.”
Luke 8:23-24
Sometimes you do everything right — you pray, you trust, you surrender — and the storm keeps raging. The diagnosis doesn't change. The relationship doesn't get better. The bills don't add up. And you wonder: where is Jesus in all of this?
He was in the same boat. Asleep, yes — but present. The storm didn't catch Him off guard. He knew it was happening. And when the disciples called out, He acted.
Notice that they called out? They didn't try to fix it alone until they couldn't take it anymore. They called out early, with urgency, with honesty: "We perish!" God is not offended by that kind of prayer — the one that cries out in desperation.
And He rebuked the storm. At the right time, in His own way. Sometimes the calm comes quickly, sometimes it takes longer. But He is never asleep to what's happening in your life.
Prayer
Jesus, I'm in the middle of the storm and I need You. I don't have strength left to row. Wake up and speak to my fear. Give me calm on the inside, even if the wind keeps blowing outside. Amen.
