Day 71Closer to God — 365 Days

Let Peace Rule

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Colossians 3:15

"Rule" — like an umpire. In a competition, the umpire decides what counts and what doesn't. Paul is saying: let the peace of Christ be the umpire of your decisions. When you're unsure, ask: "will this choice bring peace, or will it bring turmoil?"

So often anxiety comes when we accept invitations we shouldn't, when we say yes out of guilt, when we make decisions out of fear instead of faith. Peace is the inner thermometer God has given us.

And there's more: "you were called." Peace isn't a prize for those who deserve it — it's a calling. It's for anyone in the body of Christ, walking in faith, even while stumbling sometimes.

And gratitude closes the verse. Because when we're grateful, it's hard to stay anxious. You can't be fully grateful and fully anxious at the same time. Practice that today.

Prayer

Father, I want the peace of Christ to rule in my heart today. Help me choose what brings peace, and give me a grateful heart in the midst of everything. Amen.
