Day 67Closer to God — 365 Days

Sleep Without the Weight

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

Psalm 4:8

Nighttime has a special way of amplifying whatever we're carrying. During the day, distraction helps. At night, in the stillness, the thoughts come back stronger. If you know the insomnia that anxiety brings, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

The psalmist found the secret: he went to sleep in peace because he knew whom he trusted. The safety wasn't in his surroundings, wasn't in his circumstances, wasn't in the absence of problems — it was in God. "Only You, LORD, make me dwell in safety."

You don't have to solve everything before you lie down. God doesn't sleep. He can work while you rest. Placing the day in His hands before you close your eyes is a simple, powerful act of faith.

Tonight, when you lie down, do this: name each worry and hand them over one by one. "This one, Lord, is Yours. That one too. And that one too." Lie down light. He stands watch.

Prayer

Lord, give me peaceful sleep tonight. Receive what I carry and keep watch while I rest. In You I feel safe. Amen.
