Day 57 — Closer to God — 365 Days
What to Do With What You Don't Understand
“What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.”
John 13:7
Jesus said this to Peter in a moment of confusion. And there's a "hereafter" promised in that sentence that is deeply precious: one day you will understand. Not today, maybe not tomorrow — but there is a moment coming when the pieces will fall into place and you will recognize the hand of God where you once saw only mystery.
For now, the path is to trust without understanding. That requires humility. It requires accepting that your perspective is partial and His is complete. It requires letting go of the demand for answers right now and allowing God to work in the time and the way that only He knows.
What is happening in your life that you simply don't understand? Instead of insisting on an explanation, try praying a different prayer today: "Lord, I don't understand, but I trust You." Sometimes that prayer is the most honest and the most powerful one you can pray. And the "hereafter" will come — with clarity, with gratitude, with the recognition that He knew what He was doing the whole time.
Prayer
Lord, there are things in my life I simply cannot understand. But I choose to trust that You know what You are doing. May I wait for the "hereafter" in peace. Amen.
