Day 364Closer to God — 365 Days

The Eve of a New Beginning

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?

Isaiah 43:18-19a

On the eve of a new year, there is a natural tension: the heart looks backward and forward at the same time. It remembers what was. It anticipates what's coming. And it can get lost pulling in both directions.

God extends a radical invitation: do not remember the former things. Not because the past doesn't matter — but because what He is doing right now deserves your full attention.

"It is already springing forth" — something new is being born. It won't only spring up in January. It's springing up now. In circumstances that are still confusing. In relationships still in process. In a life that is still being rewritten.

Can you perceive it? Sometimes the new thing is so small it goes unnoticed. A tiny sprout that will become a tree. But it's there.

Tomorrow you turn a page. But God's story in your life has already begun the next chapter.

Prayer

Lord, sharpen my eyes to perceive what is springing up in my life. Don't let me stay trapped in yesterday when You are doing a new thing. Amen.
