Day 331 — Closer to God — 365 Days
The Hope That Withstands the Storm
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
Jesus never promised a life without storms. He promised peace in the middle of the storm — which is far better.
"In the world ye shall have tribulation" — this was stated as fact, not as a warning for the disobedient. Even the most faithful disciples would face hardship. Christian hope was never the promise of a road without stones. It was the promise of a Companion who has already gone beyond any stone you will ever encounter.
"I have overcome the world." Not "I am overcoming" — I have overcome. Past tense, definitive, irrevocable. Jesus's victory over sin, over death, over despair is an accomplished fact. And because He is in you, you share in that victory.
Being of good cheer is not denying the reality of the storm. It's remembering who is in the boat with you. And He has already gone beyond the worst the world can offer.
Take courage. He has overcome.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that Your victory is real. When the world presses in, remind me: You have already overcome. And in You, I too can have peace. Amen.
