Day 328Closer to God — 365 Days

Hope That Blooms in the Desert

For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

Isaiah 51:3

Deserts. Everyone has their own. Those dry seasons when nothing seems to grow, nothing changes, nothing blossoms. The heart parched by disappointment, by prolonged waiting, by a silence from God you don't understand.

But God has a history with deserts. He used the desert to shape Moses. He used the desert to feed Elijah. He used forty years in the desert to prepare Israel. And He brought the Messiah into the world near a desert.

He is not afraid of your desert. He knows how to turn dry ground into a garden.

That doesn't mean the desert will end tomorrow. But it means that while you're in it, something is being planted. And when God's rain finally comes — in His timing — what springs up will surprise even you.

The garden He prepares is never smaller than the desert you crossed to get there.

Prayer

Lord, my desert feels heavy. But I trust that You have the power to transform it. Plant in my dry heart what only You can make bloom. Amen.
