Day 315 — Closer to God — 365 Days
The Light Weight of Glory
“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;”
2 Corinthians 4:17
Light and momentary. Paul called his affliction light and momentary — the same Paul who was flogged, stoned, shipwrecked, went without sleep, went hungry, was imprisoned. If it was light to him, what was he seeing that we still don't see?
He was looking at the other end. At the eternal weight of glory.
When you place temporary suffering on one side of the scale and eternal glory on the other, there's no possible balance. What is fleeting simply cannot outweigh what lasts forever.
This doesn't deny the pain. Paul wasn't being superficial. He was being eternal. He was learning to see every difficulty in light of what God is building behind it — something that will last infinitely longer than any affliction.
Your pain has an expiration date. Your glory does not.
Prayer
Father, when tribulation feels too heavy, help me fix my eyes on what is eternal. May the hope of future glory lighten today's burden. Amen.
