Day 273 — Closer to God — 365 Days
The Second Chance
“Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”
1 Corinthians 13:7
A second chance. It's hard to give. Because you already gave one and it didn't work out. Because you were hurt precisely by the person you trusted. Because experience taught you to be careful.
And being careful isn't wrong. Wisdom and love don't contradict each other. You can love someone and, at the same time, be wise about how much access that person has to your life.
But there are situations where a second chance is what love asks for. Where "believeth all things" means not closing the verdict on someone because of a single moment. Where "hopeth all things" means giving time to see what can grow, what can change.
Giving a second chance is a risk. It always is. But keeping your heart closed forever also comes at a cost — hardening, isolation, an armor that ends up becoming a prison.
There's no easy answer here. Every situation is different. What love asks is that the decision come from discernment — not from fear or pride.
Where might there be a second chance that love is asking of you today?
Prayer
Lord, give me discernment to know when a second chance is love in action. And free me from the pride that closes doors that could be open. Amen.
