Day 262 — Closer to God — 365 Days
Love in Action
“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”
1 John 3:18
John gets straight to the point: love in words is easy. "I love you." "I care about you." "You can count on me." Beautiful words. But the love John describes has feet — it goes to where the other person is. It has hands — it does something concrete. It's in truth, not just in speech.
Sometimes we confuse feeling love with showing love. You can feel a great deal for someone and never let it show in practice.
Love for one's neighbor that forgives shows itself the day after the forgiveness — in the way you treat them, in your tone of voice, in your presence. Not in the feeling that passed, but in the action that continues.
And forgiveness in action sometimes looks like this: you stop avoiding the person. You pick a conversation back up with kindness. You stop giving the cold shoulder. You treat them with the same warmth as before, even while your heart is still healing.
It doesn't have to be perfect. It has to be real. Small, but real.
Today, what act of love in action can you give someone?
Prayer
Father, may my love not stay only as intention. May it show up in real gestures, in concrete choices, in actions that prove I truly care. Amen.
