Day 248Closer to God — 365 Days

When Forgiveness Feels Impossible

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

Matthew 6:14

There are times someone does something so painful that you look inside yourself and think: this, I cannot forgive. And that honesty isn't weakness — it's human.

But Jesus places forgiveness at the center of our relationship with the Father. Not as a condition for being loved, but as a sign that we understand what we've received. Whoever knows how much they've been forgiven finds it easier to forgive.

The problem is when we forget. We forget how much mercy we've needed. We forget the times God didn't give us what we deserved — and gave us what we needed instead. When we remember that, the heart softens a little.

Forgiving isn't a feeling that just shows up out of nowhere. It's a decision you make first, and the feeling arrives later — sometimes slowly, sometimes in a way you never expected.

Today you don't need to feel like you've forgiven. You just need to want to want to. And bring that want to the Father, who already knows what you're carrying.

Prayer

God, I can't do this on my own. I want to want to forgive. Come work in my heart what my own strength cannot reach. Amen.
