Day 234Closer to God — 365 Days

When the Calling Hurts

And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent... but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

Exodus 4:10

Sometimes the calling arrives exactly in the area where you feel weakest. Moses was called to speak — and struggled with words. Peter was called to be a rock — and was impulsive and unstable. Paul was called to love the churches — and carried the memory of having persecuted Christians.

God doesn't seem to be impressed by our limitations the way we are.

Maybe you're facing a calling that seems wrong for who you are. One that asks for exactly what you don't have. And the natural reaction is to say, like Moses: "Are You sure it's me?"

But notice God's answer: "Who hath made man's mouth?... have not I the LORD?" He didn't deny the limitation. He said He was greater than it.

The calling He places on your life takes into account who you are — weaknesses and all. Because He wants the glory to be clearly His, not yours.

Prayer

God, like Moses, I feel too weak for what You see in me. But I trust that the One who calls me also equips me. Here I am, with all that I lack. Amen.
