Day 169Closer to God — 365 Days

When We Don't Know How to Ask

the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Romans 8:26

There are moments when the pain runs so deep that words won't come. You want to pray, but you don't know what to ask for. You feel like you should say something, but your chest is full of something that has no name.

In those moments, this verse is an embrace from God.

The Holy Spirit prays for you when you can't. He takes what is inexpressible — what lies beyond words, that groan that never becomes a sentence — and carries it to the Father. Perfect, complete, exactly what needs to be said.

You don't need to have everything sorted out to draw near to God. You don't need the right words. You can come in silence, with the weight on your heart, and know that the Spirit is speaking for you.

This is one of the deepest graces of the Christian life: you don't have to be eloquent to be heard. The Father hears even what we cannot say. And that, dear one, changes everything.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for hearing even what I cannot express. In the moments when words won't come, let Your Spirit speak for me. Amen.
