Day 166Closer to God — 365 Days

The Words of My Mouth

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight.

Psalm 19:14

The psalmist closes a beautiful poem about God's glory with this personal, intimate request — that his words and thoughts would be pleasing to God.

There's depth here: he doesn't separate what is spoken from what is thought. Because God doesn't separate them either. He hears our thoughts just as much as our words.

That might sound intimidating — God hearing everything that crosses our mind. But look at how the psalmist handles it: not with fear, but with a request. "May they be pleasing." He's asking for help to guard his heart and his tongue.

You can make this same request today. Before you step into a hard conversation, before you open social media, before you start another full day — say this prayer. Simple as it is.

Because when the heart is aligned with God, words change. And when words change, relationships change. And when relationships change, your whole life begins to take a different shape.

Prayer

Lord, guard the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart today. May everything in me be pleasing in Your sight. Amen.
