Day 162 — Closer to God — 365 Days
Meditate Day and Night
“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”
Psalm 1:2
Meditating, in the biblical sense, has nothing to do with emptying your mind. It's the opposite — it's filling your mind with God's Word and letting it work inside you.
It's like chewing your food slowly instead of gulping it down. You don't read to check a box, you read to absorb. You carry a verse with you all day, coming back to it while you wash the dishes, while you wait at a red light, before you fall asleep.
Psalm 1 makes a beautiful promise for those who live this way: that person will be like a tree planted by rivers of water, bringing forth fruit in its season, whose leaves do not wither. In other words, there's a stability that comes from having the Word live inside you.
You don't need to be a theologian to meditate. Just take a verse and ask: what does this say about God? What does this say about me? What changes in my life because of this? And let the answers keep coming throughout the day.
Prayer
God, may Your Word dwell in me, not just pass through me. May I carry a piece of Scripture in my heart throughout my day. Amen.
