Day 149Closer to God — 365 Days

Love That Keeps No Record

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

1 Corinthians 13:6-7

Paul wrote 1 Corinthians 13 not as wedding poetry, but as a description of the love of God — and of the love God wants us to have.

And one of the traits of this love is that it doesn't keep count of wrongs. It doesn't tally the negatives, doesn't hold on to a list of offenses received. On the contrary — it endures, it hopes, it believes.

God's love for you keeps no file of your mistakes. There's no folder tucked away with everything you've done wrong, waiting for the right moment to be used against you. What was forgiven was forgiven — and the love continues.

This is also the love you're called to have — with the people around you, and with yourself. Because sometimes we are our own worst record-keepers: we file away our own mistakes far more carefully than God ever would.

Today, delete the file. God already did. You can too.

Prayer

God, teach me not to hold against myself what You have already forgiven. Teach me the love that keeps no record of wrongs — starting with myself. Amen.
