Day 120Closer to God — 365 Days

The Lord Upholds the Humbled

The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.

Psalm 147:6

There are moments in life when we feel thrown to the ground. Not because of weakness, but because of circumstances, injustices, losses we never asked for. And the feeling of being knocked down is real, and it hurts.

For these moments, the psalmist offers a precious truth: the Lord upholds the humbled. Not those who humble themselves to appear spiritual — those who were humbled by life, by others, by circumstances.

"Upholds" — the Hebrew word implies holding, supporting, keeping from falling. God is beneath you, holding you up, when you feel like you're falling.

This changes the perspective. You're not sinking — you're being held up. The fall looks the same from the outside, but there's a support your eyes can't see.

And God doesn't hold you up so you'll stay on the ground. He holds you up so you can rise. The position of the humbled is temporary. The faithfulness of the God who upholds is eternal.

Rise. He's holding you.

Prayer

God, in the moments when I've been knocked down, let me feel Your hand holding me up. Thank You for being beneath me when I fall. Amen.
