Day 121Closer to God — 365 Days

Each Day Has Its Own Strength

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Matthew 6:34

Jesus said this, and it seems almost counterintuitive. Don't worry about tomorrow? But there's so much to plan, to figure out, to secure. And Jesus says: one day at a time.

This isn't irresponsibility. It's an invitation to live in the present, where God is. Because God's grace doesn't operate in some imagined future — it works today. Trying to live tomorrow today is trying to use grace that hasn't been given yet.

The strength for what comes tomorrow will be available tomorrow. The wisdom for next month's decision will be given next month. Today, you have what you need for today.

How many times have you worn yourself out with worries that never happened? A tomorrow that never arrived, problems that never existed. And meanwhile, today slipped by unlived.

God is here, now, with you. Receive what He has for you today. Tomorrow, He'll be there too.

Prayer

Lord, free me from anxiety about tomorrow. Help me live today in the grace You have already provided. Amen.
