Day 106 — Closer to God — 365 Days
When Discouragement Strikes
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”
Psalm 42:11
Discouragement is honest. And the psalmist doesn't try to hide it — he talks to his own soul. "Why are you cast down?" It's almost an inner dialogue with sadness, without judgment, but also without surrender.
You can do the same. You don't need to pretend you're fine when you're not. But you also don't need to let discouragement have the last word.
The psalmist's turn is beautiful: hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him. "Yet" — even without seeing the way out. Even without feeling His presence like before. Even with a heavy heart. Praise will come, because He is faithful.
Today might be a hard day for you. Maybe discouragement arrived before breakfast. That's okay. Talk to your soul the same way: stop, breathe, hope in God. He hasn't finished the story yet.
The best chapter may be just ahead.
Prayer
Father, when my soul is cast down, remind me to hope in You. May I trust that I will yet praise You, even before I see it. Amen.
