Day 104Closer to God — 365 Days

Feet Like Hinds' Feet

The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.

Habakkuk 3:19

Habakkuk wrote this in one of the darkest moments in his people's history. Everything was about to collapse. And at the end of the book, after lamenting, he declares: even so, the Lord is my strength.

The image of the hind is beautiful. The animal with light, sure-footed steps that scales the steepest rocks without slipping. Not because the terrain is easy, but because its feet were made for that terrain.

God doesn't promise you'll walk on smooth plains. He promises to give you the right feet for the hard places. Grace isn't meant to free you from the mountain — it's meant to sustain you on it.

Maybe you're on a high, steep place right now. Frightening. Nothing to hold on to. And God is saying: look at your feet. I made them for this terrain. You will not fall.

Keep climbing. He sustains.

Prayer

God, give me sure feet for the steep places I'm walking through. May I not look at the drop, but at You. Amen.
