15My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Verse explanation
“Thou hast possessed my reins” uses the kidneys as a stand-in for the seat of emotion and innermost conscience. Not the physical organ on its own, but the center of the inner self, formed by God even before birth.
