Read it in context
The verses around Job 28:28.
26When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
27Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
28And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
Verse explanation
“The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom” closes the poem with a simple answer after such a long search. Many scholars read this whole chapter as an almost independent interlude, a hymn inserted before Job’s final speech, rather than exactly his own voice complaining as in the surrounding chapters.
From the Job 28 study in Bible in Stories.
