Verse explanation
‘Let us make’ is plural, and that puzzles a lot of people, since the rest of the chapter speaks of a single God. Scholars offer more than one reading: it could be a plural of majesty, a way of speaking used by ancient kings; it could include the heavenly beings surrounding God; or it could be an echo of older traditions. The text does not explain — it simply uses the plural form without comment.
