17And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king’s commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell upon them.
Verse explanation
News of the new decree brings joy and celebration among the Jews throughout the empire, and the text adds that many people of other nations began declaring themselves Jews, out of fear of what the Jews had shown themselves capable of doing.
