Day 70Marriage Devotional

When Illness Knocks at the Door

And through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned;

Isaiah 43:2b

Illness is one of the trials that shakes a marriage the most. Whether it's you who falls ill, your spouse, or a child — everything changes. The routine, the plans, the lightness of ordinary days. And a quiet question can surface: how long?

In those hours, a marriage is tested in a very real way. But it can also be revealed — revealed as covenant, as companionship, as a love that is not just a feeling but a decision.

Caring for the one we love through illness is one of the most beautiful acts a marriage holds. It's holding a hand without needing any words. It's praying together at the bedside. It's trusting God with what medicine cannot control.

If you're going through this right now, know this: God is in that room with you. He sees every hard night, every whispered prayer, every silent act of love. And He carries what feels like too much to bear.

Prayer

Lord, You see the illness that has come into our home. Be the physician who heals, the comfort that supports, and the strength that sustains us when we have none left. May our love for each other grow through this trial. Amen.
