Day 57Marriage Devotional

The Friendship That Sustains

A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Proverbs 17:17

The best marriages are the ones where the two of you are also friends. Not just lovers, not just co-parents, not just co-managers of the same household. Friends. Who enjoy talking, who have inside jokes, who sometimes prefer each other's company simply because the other is good to be around. That friendship needs tending. Over time, the rush of life can turn a marriage into a functional partnership — efficient but cold. Friendship is rebuilt through small choices: sitting together without your phone, asking how the day really went, laughing together over something. Your spouse can be your best friend. You can be his. Take care of that friendship the way you take care of anything precious.

Prayer

Father, may my spouse and I be true friends. May we never lose the joy of simply being together. May the friendship between us be strong enough to weather any adversity. Amen.
