Day 49Marriage Devotional

Serving with Joy

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Philippians 2:3

Serving your spouse is sometimes easy. And sometimes it's the last thing you want to do, because you're tired too, you have needs too, you could use some serving yourself. Paul isn't asking you to fake a joy that isn't there. He's pointing to an attitude of the heart — considering the other person. In marriage, that's radical. When you serve not to score points, not to be recognized, but as an act of genuine love — something shifts. Not because the marriage becomes perfect. But because you become more free. Serving out of love is different from serving out of obligation. The first strengthens; the second breeds resentment. Ask God for a heart that serves with joy — not because it comes naturally, but because it's supernatural.

Prayer

God, transform my heart so that I serve my spouse with joy and not with bitterness. May my acts of care come from love and not from obligation. May they feel the difference. Amen.
