Day 27Marriage Devotional

From Passion to Mature Love

There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

Proverbs 19:21

Marriage begins with plans — the two of you, full of excitement and certainty. And God, smiling, allows life to reveal what remains when the plans change. Because they do change. The children arrive different than expected. The money doesn't flow the way you imagined. Health delivers its scares. And it's within that frame of the unexpected that real love appears.

The passion of the beginning is a gift — but mature love is an achievement. It's what's left after life takes its ruler to everything. It's knowing that the person beside you stayed, even when there were reasons to walk away. It's seeing, in someone's aging face, the story you wrote together. If you're in a season of transition — from intense passion to something quieter — don't be alarmed. You're not losing love. You're gaining depth. And God is in that depth too.

Prayer

Father, thank You for the seasons of our love. May I treasure what we have now, not only what we had before. May mature love look to me just as beautiful as the first. Amen.
