Day 23 — Marriage Devotional
When the water can't quench love
“Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it.”
Song of Solomon 8:7a
Song of Solomon is the book of the Bible that reads most like a love poem — and there's a reason it exists there. God created the love between man and woman, and he celebrates it. And he says something extraordinary: this love does not go out. Not the many waters. Not the rivers.
The "many waters" in real life have names: financial crisis, illness, loss, emotional distance, a disagreement that drags on for months. They try to drown what you've built together. And sometimes it seems like they're succeeding. But God says true love is stronger. Not the passing feeling — the love that was planted with intention, watered with God, sustained by promise. That kind doesn't go out easily. If you feel the water is high right now, hold on. The love God places in the heart has a resilience the storm doesn't understand.
Prayer
Father, may the love in our marriage be unshakable like the love You describe. When the waters rise, may it stay lit, protected by Your hand. Amen.
