Day 19 — Marriage Devotional
The perfect bond
“And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.”
Colossians 3:14
Paul speaks here of several virtues — mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience. And then he says: above all these things, put on love. As if love were the belt that holds everything else in place.
Think about this in your marriage. You can do everything "right" — care for the home, work, be present. But if love isn't binding it all together, it becomes a checklist without a heart. Love is what gives meaning to the effort. It's what turns cooking into an act of care, listening into a gift, patience into a choice of grace. This isn't about performing — it's about letting God's love in you overflow into your marriage. When you are full of God, love flows out naturally. Fill yourself with Him first. The rest follows.
Prayer
Lord, may love be the bond that holds everything together in our marriage. May my actions be moved by genuine love, not obligation. Fill me with You. Amen.
