Day 51Peace in Place of Anxiety

Learn Rest From Jesus

Take my yoke upon you... for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:29-30

Jesus uses an image from the fields: the yoke, that wooden beam joining two oxen to pull a load together. When a younger, inexperienced ox was placed in the yoke beside an older, stronger one, it was the strong ox that bore the weight and set the pace; the young one simply walked alongside, learning. That's what Jesus offers: 'take my yoke upon you.' He doesn't promise a life without a load — he promises to carry the load with you, beside you, setting a pace you can keep. That's why the burden becomes light: not because it disappears, but because you stop pulling it alone. Anxiety puts you pulling the whole cart by yourself, rushing, until you collapse. Jesus calls you into his yoke, where the strength is his and the pace is gentle. Rest isn't dropping everything; it's changing yokes — leaving the heavy yoke of self-sufficiency for the light yoke of Christ's company. Today, stop pulling alone. Step up beside him and let him carry it with you.

Prayer

Jesus, I am tired of pulling everything alone. I take Your yoke upon me. Carry it with me, set the pace, and teach me that Your burden is light. Amen.
