Day 7 — A Man After God's Own Heart
Whom Shall I Fear?
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalms 27.1
David wrote this psalm surrounded by real enemies and real danger — and still he asks, firmly: whom shall I fear? It isn't a naive question from someone who never felt afraid. It's the question of a man who decided to place the fear of God above every other fear. When the Lord is your light, your salvation, the strength of your life, other fears shrink down to size. That doesn't mean you'll stop feeling afraid — it means fear stops being the one in charge of you. Men carry fears they rarely admit out loud: fear of failing, of disappointing the people they love, of not being enough, of losing control of their own lives. Left unaddressed, those fears end up steering decisions, relationships, silences. Today, ask David's same question of your own list of fears: whom shall I fear? If the Lord is your light and your strength, those fears may still exist, but they no longer get the final word over you. Put God in the highest place of your heart, and watch the other fears shrink.
Prayer
Lord, You are my light and my salvation. Help me put the fear of You above all my other fears. When they try to paralyze me, remind me that You are the strength of my life. Amen.
