Day 6A Man After God's Own Heart

Be Strong and of Good Courage

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Joshua 1.9

Joshua was about to take on a massive task: leading an entire nation into unknown territory, full of giants and battles ahead. And what God repeats to him, more than once, isn't a battle strategy — it's a call to courage: be strong and of good courage, do not be afraid or discouraged. Notice God didn't say there'd be no reason for fear. There was, plenty. What He promised was presence: the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. A man of faith's courage isn't born from pretending fear doesn't exist; it's born from knowing he doesn't face the battle alone. Maybe you're standing before your own unknown territory today — a decision, a change, a hard conversation, a fresh start. It's normal for your stomach to tighten. Joshua probably felt that too. But he took the first step with the fear still in his body, because he trusted the promise. Today, don't wait for fear to disappear before you act. Take the step with it still present, remembering you don't walk alone. A godly man's courage is accompanied, not solitary.

Prayer

Lord, when fear tightens its grip, remind me that You go with me. Give me courage to take the next step, even without all the answers. I trust Your presence more than I fear the unknown. Amen.
