Day 24 — A Man After God's Own Heart
Do Not Forsake the Gathering
“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Hebrews 10.24-25
The writer of Hebrews asks for something that sounds simple but that many men neglect: don't forsake gathering with other believers, but spur one another on to love and good works. It's easy, with a schedule packed full of work, family, and exhaustion, to push church and faith community to the bottom of the list — after all, nobody demands as much as the boss or the kids do. But this verse reminds us that faith alone, isolated, tends to grow cold. You need other men of faith around you — not just for a Sunday service, but for real encouragement, accountability, shared prayer, help in hard moments. Isolating yourself from church seems, in the short term, to save time and energy; in the long term, it leaves you more vulnerable to falling, more alone in your struggles, colder spiritually. Maybe you pulled away because of disappointment with someone, shame over some struggle, or simple exhaustion. Even so, the invitation stands: come back, imperfect as you are, doubts and all. The faith community doesn't exist for people who've already arrived — it exists for men on the road, like you. Today, take one concrete step back into fellowship: a message, a meeting, a group prayer. You weren't made to walk this faith alone.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I've pulled away from fellowship with other believers. Bring back into my life people who spur me on to love and good works. Don't let me walk this faith alone. Amen.
