Day 19 — A Man After God's Own Heart
A Covenant with My Eyes
“I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?”
Job 31.1
Job makes an unusual statement for the standards of his time — and ours: I made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I look with lust on a young woman? He doesn't wait for temptation to arrive before deciding to resist; he's already made, ahead of time, an inner agreement about where his eyes will and won't go. That's proactivity, not repression. In a world where sexual images and content are one tap away, purity doesn't happen by accident — it takes a conscious decision, made before the moment of temptation, while the head is still clear. Maybe you've already let yourself down in this area — looks, clicks, habits you hide and carry shame over. You're not alone in that fight, and you don't have to stay stuck in it. Making a covenant with your eyes can mean practical things: setting up filters, being honest with someone you trust, avoiding certain places and screens alone, training your gaze to turn away instead of lingering. It isn't about instant perfection — it's about a commitment renewed every day, with God's help. Today, make your own covenant with your eyes. Ask God for strength to keep it, and don't be ashamed to seek help when you need it.
Prayer
Lord, today I make a covenant with my eyes before You. Guard my mind and my gaze. Where I've already failed, forgive me, and give me strength to begin again in purity. Amen.
