Day 8 — Young Woman of Faith
The Beauty That Never Fades
“Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”
1 Peter 3:3-4
Peter wasn't saying you can't take care of yourself. He was saying there's a deeper beauty, more lasting, more real than anything you can buy or apply.
Culture bombards you with the message that you need more — more product, more procedure, more filter — to be pretty enough. And it's exhausting. Because even when you pour everything into it, that feeling of "never quite there" comes back.
But there's a beauty that needs no filter: the beauty of a gentle heart. Of a soul that forgives. Of a girl who has peace even when life is a mess. That doesn't fade with age, doesn't need touch-ups, doesn't vanish with a bad photo.
The "hidden man of the heart" that Peter mentions — that meek and quiet spirit — is precious in God's sight. It isn't weakness. It's the deepest beauty there is.
Take care of your appearance, yes. But take even greater care of your heart. That's where the beauty that lasts lives.
Prayer
Father, help me not to pour all my time and energy only into my appearance. I want to cultivate the beauty of the heart — kindness, peace, love. May that be what defines who I am. Amen.
