Day 27Young Woman of Faith

Letting Go of Control Over Tomorrow

For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

James 4:14

This isn't pessimism — it's perspective. James is saying that life is brief, that the future isn't in our hands, and that the plans we make need to be held loosely.

You can plan. You should plan. But the plans you grip too tightly — the ones that demand everything go exactly your way, that leave you paralyzed with anxiety the moment something changes — those plans are taking up the place that belongs to God.

There's a lightness that comes when you stop trying to control the future and start trusting the One who holds it. That's not giving up on dreaming or doing. It's dreaming and doing with open hands — knowing that even if something changes, God is still in control.

The anxious woman who grips everything tightly never rests. The daughter who trusts sets the weight down and walks with open hands, available for what God has prepared — even if it looks different from what she had planned.

Open your hand. He holds tomorrow far better than you do.

Prayer

Father, I confess that sometimes I grow anxious trying to control what isn't in my hands. Help me plan with wisdom, but hold my plans loosely and trust in You. Amen.
