Day 67Goodnight, Lord

Under the Shadow of His Wings

In the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

Psalm 63:7

Picture the image of a chick gathered under its mother's wings: protected, warmed, unafraid of what lies outside. That's how God shelters you at night. The shadow of His wings is a place of protection, but also of joy — there, you find not only safety but tenderness. However much the day has exposed you to, now you can withdraw into this intimate shelter. You are not unprotected in the world; you are covered by God. Tonight, before you sleep, picture yourself in that place: tucked under the Father's wings, far from the reach of what frightens you, close to the warmth of His presence. There you can even rejoice, because fear finds no entry where God shelters. Sleep beneath His wings, and let the comfort of His protection cradle your rest.

Prayer

Lord, I gather myself under the shadow of Your wings. Cover me, warm my heart, and drive away fear. In Your shadow I rest and rejoice. Amen.
