Day 65Goodnight, Lord

Forgiveness Sets You Free to Sleep

Let not the sun go down upon your wrath.

Ephesians 4:26

There's an old and wise piece of advice hidden in this verse: don't take hurt to bed with you. Maybe someone wounded you today, or you've been holding onto a resentment that kept churning inside. Carrying it into the night only steals your sleep and sours your heart. God invites you to let the sun set on forgiveness, not on anger. Forgiving doesn't mean saying what happened didn't matter; it means releasing the poison that was hurting you more than the other person. Tonight, before you sleep, hand over to God the hurt that insists on staying. Ask Him to take care of justice and to lift from you the weight of carrying a grudge. You sleep so much better with a light heart. Let go of what hurt you and rest, forgiving as God forgives you.

Prayer

Lord, I don't want to carry hurt to bed with me. Help me forgive, and take from me the resentment that weighs me down. Take care of justice, and give me a light heart for sleep. Amen.
