Day 64Closer to God — 365 Days

One Day at a Time

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Matthew 6:34

Jesus said this with a tenderness we sometimes miss when we read it too quickly. He wasn't being harsh — He was being a father. "Don't carry tomorrow's load today. You weren't made for that."

An anxious mind loves to visit the future. It imagines scenarios, rehearses hard conversations, foresees disasters that may never happen. And while it does that, it misses today — the only day God has placed in your hands right now.

Living one day at a time isn't irresponsibility. It's obedience. It's trusting that God is already in your tomorrow, preparing the way, before you ever get there.

Today you have grace for today. Tomorrow He'll give grace for tomorrow. There's no saving up today's grace to use later — it was made for right now. Receive what He is offering in this moment.

Prayer

God, help me stay here, in this day, in this hour. When my mind races ahead to tomorrow, bring me back to Your presence now. Amen.
