Day 36Closer to God — 365 Days

When Fear Knocks

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

Psalm 56:3

Fear is honest. It shows up unannounced, sometimes for concrete reasons, sometimes with no explanation at all. And the psalmist's response isn't "don't be afraid" or "be stronger." He says: when fear comes, I will trust.

That small word "when" is very gentle. It's not "if." It's when. God knows fear will come. He doesn't condemn you for feeling it. He invites you to choose a different direction when fear shows up: instead of shutting down, open up to Him. Instead of freezing, run toward the One who can hold you up.

Trusting while you're afraid isn't denying what you feel. It's acknowledging that your feelings are real, but that God is bigger than they are. It's saying: I am afraid, and I still draw near to You. That simple gesture is already faith. And God honors that faith every time.

Prayer

Lord, I'm afraid of some things I can't control. But I choose to trust You anyway. Don't ask me not to feel it — help me feel it and still move in Your direction. Amen.
