Day 352Closer to God — 365 Days

When the Race Feels Long

let us run with patience the race that is set before us

Hebrews 12:1b

Sometimes the Christian life feels like a marathon with no finish line in sight. You run and run, and the scenery never seems to change. The same struggles come back around. The same ground repeats itself.

But the author of Hebrews says something important: the race "is set before us." It was designed. It has a beginning and an end. And it has a specific course laid out for you — not someone else's course, not the race you would have chosen if you could, but the one carefully prepared to shape you into exactly who you need to be.

The setbacks along the way aren't mistakes on the map. They're part of the course that forms you.

And perseverance — the Greek word is "hypomone," meaning to endure with patience and hope — isn't just gritting your teeth. It's pressing forward with the firm hope that the finish line is worth every step.

You are going to make it. Keep running.

Prayer

God, when the race feels long and the end feels far away, remind me that You Yourself charted this course for me. Give me joyful perseverance to keep going. Amen.
