Day 290Closer to God — 365 Days

The Lilies of the Field

And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

Matthew 6:28

Jesus could have used any illustration. He chose the lilies. Flowers that don't work, don't worry, don't strive to grow — and yet are more beautiful than all of Solomon's glory. And God dresses them that way. Think about it: if He cares so much about the beauty of flowers that last only a few days, how much more will He care for you, made for eternity? The worry about clothing that Jesus mentions goes beyond what you wear — it's the anxiety about appearance, about what others think, about approval, about having enough to be accepted. He looks at all of that and says, "Don't be anxious like that." Not because it doesn't matter, but because you have a Father who provides. Today, if anxiety about something "on the outside" starts to tighten its grip, remember the lilies — and the God who clothes them.

Prayer

Lord, free me from anxiety over things You have already promised to provide. May I trust in Your care the way the lilies do — without worry, only presence. Amen.
