Day 246 — Closer to God — 365 Days
The Weight You Don't Have to Carry
“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”
Colossians 3:13
There's a weight we carry without even realizing it: the hurt we've held onto, the account that was never settled, the word that got stuck in our throat. It feels too heavy to put down, doesn't it? As if forgiving meant saying what happened was okay.
But, my friend, forgiveness isn't that. Forgiveness doesn't erase what happened. It doesn't make the pain vanish in an instant. What it does is free you from having to carry that weight forever.
Paul writes "bear with one another" — and that word "bear" already says a lot. It means living with flawed people does hurt, does wear you out, does get on your nerves sometimes. It isn't easy. But the measure isn't how much the other person deserves. The measure is how much Christ has already forgiven you.
And how much was that? A lot. More than any debt anyone could ever owe you.
Today, just one invitation: think of one person you're still holding back from forgiveness. It doesn't have to be easy. It just has to be one step.
Prayer
Lord, I know I receive forgiveness every day. Help me give what I receive. Soften what has hardened in my heart, and teach me to bear with others in love. Amen.
